 युद्धात किंवा रणभूमीवर जखमी झालेल्या सैनिकाचे आत्मकथन 

(आत्मनिवेदनपर निबंध)

मुद्दे : सैनिकी रुग्णालयास भेट - कारगिल युद्धात शत्रूशी लढताना मेजर जखमी- शत्रूचे विश्वासघातकी धोरण - देशाच्या सीमांचे प्राणपणाने रक्षण - 'जिंकू किंवा मरू' ही वृत्ती - नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस, छत्रपती शिवरायांचा आदर्श - मातृभूमीचे रक्षण हेच ध्येय -  बरे झाल्यानंतर शत्रूला अद्दल घडवण्यासाठी परत जाण्याची तीव्र इच्छा - वर्षानुवर्षे घरापासून दूर राहावे लागते - पण खंत नाही - कारण संपूर्ण देश जवानांच्या पाठीशी - प्रत्येक सण, राष्ट्रीय दिनाला लोकांकडून पत्रे, शुभेच्छा पत्रे, भेटी यांचा वर्षाव - रणात मरण आले तरी चिरंजीवत्त येते - देशातील तरुणांना आवाहन -   कोणत्याही क्षेत्रात काम करा,  कोठेही असा, पण देशाला विसरू नका...

       उन्हाळी सुट्टीमध्ये वानवडीच्या लष्करी इस्पितळाला आम्ही काही मित्रांना भेट दिली. हेतू होता जखमी सैनिकांशी गप्पागोष्टी कराव्यात, त्यांचे मनोरंजन करावे.  तेथे आम्हाला मेजर जयंत राय भेटले. युद्धात शत्रूशी लढताना जखमी झालेले, दोन्ही हात पाय प्लास्टरने जखडलेले, डोक्यालाही बँडेज होते, पण गडी खचलेला नव्हता. मोठ्या उत्साहाने बोलत होते ते -

     "मित्रांनो, कारगिल लढाईत मी जखमी झालो. माझ्याबरोबरचे काही वीर कामास आले. कारण कारगिलची झालेली लढाई किंवा युद्ध शत्रु कडून झालेली केवळ आमची फसवणूक होती. भयंकर थंडीमुळे युद्ध थांबलेले असताना शत्रूने गुपचुप हल्ला केला. आपले सैनिक प्राणपणाने लढत होते. तळहातावर जीव घेऊन ते लढले आणि विजय मिळवला."

     "मी जखमी झालो होतो तरी लढत होतो. काहीही झाले तरी चालेल कारण माझा 'जिंकू किंवा मरू' हाच बाणा होता. त्या क्षणीही मला आठवण झाली ती श्रीशिवरायांची, नेताजी सुभाषचंद्र बोस यांची. मातृभूमीचे रक्षण हेच ध्येय फक्त डोळ्यासमोर होते. आजही हेच ध्येय आहे. म्हणून या रुग्णालयात माझा जीव अजिबात रमत नाही. लवकर बरे होऊन मला रणभूमीत जायचे आहे आणि शत्रूला पूर्णपणे नामोहरण करायचे आहे."

     "देशाच्या सीमेचे रक्षण करणे आमचे कर्तव्य. यासाठी वर्षानुवर्ष आम्ही आमच्या घरापासून दूर राहतो त्याबद्दल आम्हाला खंत नसते.  कारण आम्हाला माहित आहे की सारा देश आमच्या मागे खंबीरपणे उभा आहे. प्रत्येक सणाला, राष्ट्रीय दिनाला आम्हाला देशाच्या कानाकोप-यातून शुभेच्छा पत्रे येतात, भेटी येतात, थंडीच्या दिवसात आमच्या देशभगिनी स्वतः स्वेटर विणून पाठवतात. अशा या प्रेमळ भेटीमुळे आम्हाला लढण्याला दुप्पट बळ येत."

     "मित्रांनो, मी ज्यावेळी या क्षेत्रामध्ये दाखल झालो तेव्हाच मनात एक पक्का निर्णय करून मी ही देश सेवा स्विकारली होती. कारण मला माहीत होते की सैन्यातील नोकरी करणे हे एक प्रकारचे 'सतीचे वाण' आहे. सैन्यदलात येणाऱ्या प्रत्येकाने जवानाने ते स्विकारलेली असते. कारण रणांभूमीवर येणारे मरण सैनिकाला चिरंजीवित्व देते. ते देशासाठी चे मरण असते."

      "मित्रांनो, मला तुम्हाला मनापासून एवढाच उपदेश करावासा वाटतो की, तुम्ही भविष्यात कोणत्याही क्षेत्रात काम करा. जगाच्या पाठीवर कुठेही असा, पण आपल्या मातृभूमीला, देशाला विसरू नका." जयंतांचे विचार ऐकून आम्ही भारावून गेलो. त्यांना असे आश्वासन देऊन आम्ही त्यांचा निरोप घेतला.

Autobiography of a soldier wounded in battle or on the battlefield

 During summer vacation, we visited some friends at Wanwadi Military Hospital.  The purpose was to chat with the wounded soldiers, to entertain them.  There we met Major Jayant Rai.  Wounded while fighting the enemy in battle, both hands and feet were plastered, the head was also bandaged, but the wicket was not worn.  He was talking with great enthusiasm -

 "Friends, I was wounded in the battle of Kargil. Some heroes came to work with me. Because the battle of Kargil or the battle was only our betrayal by the enemy.  And won. "

 "Even though I was injured, I was fighting. No matter what happens, it will work because my motto was 'win or die'. At that moment, I remembered Srishivaraya, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The only goal was to protect the motherland.  So my life in this hospital is not good at all. I want to get well soon and go to the battlefield and completely defeat the enemy. "

 "It is our duty to protect the borders of the country. We do not regret that we stay away from our homes for years. Because we know that the whole country stands firmly behind us.  On cold days, our compatriots send their own knitting sweaters. Such a loving gift gives us double the strength to fight. "

 "Friends, it was only when I entered the field that I made a firm decision to accept the service of this country, because I knew that serving in the army was a kind of 'sati variety'.  Death gives life to a soldier. It is death for the country. "

 "Friends, I sincerely urge you to work in any field in the future. Be on the back of the world, but don't forget your motherland, your country."  We were overwhelmed by Jayant's thoughts.  Assuring them so, we said goodbye to them.
