मुद्दे : मी एक गरीब शेतकरी - शेती हा पारंपारिक व्यवसाय - अहोरात्र कष्ट - बिकट अवस्था - अवर्षण - अतिवृष्टीची टांगती तलवार - कृषिप्रधान देश - शासनाची तुटपुंजी मदत -  जास्त उत्पादन मिळत नाही - परिणामी शेतकरी गरीब - कर्जबाजारी - आत्महत्येसारख्या घटना - शेतकरी सुखी तर देश सुखी...

     "लोकहो, मी एक अल्पभूधारक शेतकरी आहे. मी या भुमीचा सुपुत्र आहे. ही माती माझी आई आहे. पिढ्यानपिढ्या शेतात खूप काबाडकष्ट करून, दिवसरात्र खपून, घाम गाळून मी धान्य पिकवतो. मी तुम्हा सर्वांचा नम्र सेवक आहे. आज मी माझ्या देशवाशियांसमोर माझ्या मनातील विचार व्यक्त करणार आहे."

    "आपला देश हा कृषीप्रधान देश आहे. 'कसेल त्याची जमीन' असा कायदा झाला. असा कायदा करण्यामागील सरकारचा उद्देश एकच आहे की, शेतात राबणारा, कष्ट करणारा शेतकरी जमिनीचा खऱ्या अर्थाने मालक व्हावा. जे शेतकरी कर्जबाजारी आहेत त्यांना यामुळे कर्जमाफी देण्यात आली, सावकाराकडून होणारी पिळवणूक बंद करण्यात आली व बँकांमार्फत शेतकऱ्यांना मदत देऊ करण्यात आली. या साऱ्या गोष्टीचा गाजावाजा भरपूर झाला. पण खेडोपाड्यातील गोरगरिब शेतकऱ्यांपर्यंत या सर्व योजना खरोखरीच पोचल्या आहेत का, याची कुणी कधी खात्री करून घेतली आहे का?"

     "आजकाल आपल्या देशामध्ये नव्याने निर्माण झालेला श्रीमंत शेतकरी वर्गच या साऱ्यांचा फायदा घेत आहे. हेच लोक वेगवेगळ्या नावाखाली सरकारी सोई-सुविधा मिळतात, मानसन्मान पटकावतात आणि गरीब शेतकऱ्यांवर अन्याय करतात. त्यामुळे परिस्थिती अशी निर्माण झाली आहे की, श्रीमंत शेतकरी वर्ग अधिकच श्रीमंत होत आहेत, तर गरीब शेतकरी वर्ग हा अधिकच कंगाल जीवन जगत आहे. गरीब शेतकऱ्याने पिकवलेल्या मालाला काहीवेळा योग्य भाव येत नाही. मग कर्जफेड कशी करणार? हप्त्यांचा तगादा सतत मागे लागतो. यामधून शेतकऱ्यांमध्ये नैराश्य निर्माण होऊन शेवटी काहीजण आत्महत्येचा मार्ग स्वीकारतात, कर्ज बळी ठरतात."

    "दुसऱ्याच्या शेतावर दिवसरात्र काबाड कष्ट करणाऱ्या, स्वतःची जमिन नसणाऱ्या मजुरांचे हाल तर डोळ्यांनी पाहवत नाहीत. त्याला धड मजुरी देखील दिली जात नाही. त्यांना वेटबिगारासारखे राबवून घेतले जाते. पावसाळ्याच्या हंगामामध्ये तर हे शेतमजूर कसे जगत असतील, ते भगवंतालाच ठाऊक! सारा देश असो की जग असो ज्या शेतकऱ्याच्या कष्टावर जगतो तोच गरीब शेतकरी मात्र उपाशी आहे, याची देशवासीयांना साधी कल्पनाही नसेल."

     "आपल्या देशातील ग्रामिण भागात दारिद्रय रेषेखाली वास्तव्य कराणाऱ्या या गरीब, तुटपुंजी जमीन असणाऱ्या शेतकऱ्यांकडे व शेतमजुरांकडे सरकारने तसेच शहरी नागरिकांनी देखील लक्ष देणे आवश्यक आहे. खरे भूमिपुत्र आम्ही गरीब शेतकरी आहोत. आम्ही सुध्दा या देशातील स्वतंत्र नागरीक आहोत  म्हणून आम्हालाही मानाने जगू द्या. तरच पुढील घोषण 'जय जवान, जय किसान' हि समर्थपणे साध्य होण्यासाठी योग्य असे जीवन आम्हा सामान्य किसानांना लाभू द्या, एवढीच आमची मागणी आहे."
